• All students must have a CURRENT American Heart Association BLS Provider Card 

Next Steps for Becoming a BLS Instructor:

Following successful completion of the BLS Instructor Essentials Course (completed online), candidates must also:

• Attend a virtual BLS Instructor Course.
• Be monitored by Faculty teaching your first course. It can be your own class with your own client/student or you can conduct one of the Campaign Pay It Forward classes.
• Upon successful completion of all steps, candidates receive a BLS Instructor card, valid for two years. 

AHA Instructor Renewal Guidelines:

- You must teach at least 4 classes within two years as a lead or assisting instructor. 

- You must be monitored to renew your certification and pay a $100 renewal fee which is subject to change.  

Course Covers:

• Planning and preparation for courses
• Instructing courses
• Conducting written exams, skills practice, and skills testing
• Keeping your BLS Instructor status current
• Includes approximately 30 minutes of general information about instructing AHA courses, followed by BLS course-specific information
• Course information is available for 12 months following online activation

Once You Become an Instructor:

• You may start teaching the following American Heart Association Classes:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider
  • Heartsaver CPR/AED
  • Heartsaver First Aid
  • Pediatric Heartsaver CPR/AED & First Aid
  • Friends & Family CPR

More Information:

• Successful Instructors will be aligned with Campaign Pay It Forward which is a training site under an AHA training center. This is important because the AHA requires you to be aligned with an AHA training center/site and you will purchase certification cards for your classes (once you are an approved instructor) from your aligned Training Center/ Training Site.
